The LivestockProcurement Officer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and procuring healthy livestock (primarily cattle) for Amo Farm’s pastoralist operations.
The role ensures cost-effective purchasing while maintaining high standards of animal health, quality, and compliance with biosecurity and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Livestock Sourcing & Procurement:
Identify and engage reliable livestock suppliers, pastoralists, and markets across designated regions.
Procure cattle and other livestock in line with approved specifications (breed, weight, age, and health status).
Negotiate pricing and supply agreements to achieve cost efficiency without compromising quality.
Maintain a consistent and reliable supply pipeline to meet operational demand.
Quality Control & Animal Health:
Conduct physical inspection of animals before purchase to ensure they meet Amo Farm standards.
Collaborate with veterinary teams to verify animal health status and fitness for transport.
Ensure all procured animals are disease-free and comply with biosecurity protocols.
Reject substandard livestock and escalate quality concerns appropriately.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with pastoralists, traders, and livestock markets.
Maintain a database of approved suppliers and track their performance.
Liaise with internal stakeholders, including veterinary, logistics, and farm operations teams.
Monitor supplier compliance with agreed standards and ethical sourcing practices.
Logistics & Transportation Coordination:
Coordinate transportation of livestock from purchase locations to farm or ranch sites.
Ensure humane handling and adherence to animal welfare standards during transit.
Work with logistics teams to optimise delivery timelines and minimise losses.
Monitor mortality rates during transit and implement corrective actions when necessary
Market Intelligence & Reporting:
Monitor livestock market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply dynamics.
Provide regular reports on procurement activities, costs, and supplier performance.
Recommend procurement strategies based on market insights and operational needs.
Maintain accurate records of all purchases, including cost, quantity, and supplier details.
Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Maintain proper documentation such as purchase records, veterinary certificates, and movement permits.
Support audits and ensure traceability of all procured livestock.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, or related field.
2–5 years’ experience in livestock procurement, pastoralist engagement, or farm operations.
Strong knowledge of cattle breeds, livestock markets, and animal health indicators.
Experience working in Northern Nigeria or with pastoralist communities is an advantage.
Good negotiation and relationship management skills.
Ability to travel frequently to rural and remote locations.
